The Federal Government has said it is addressing the root cause of the challenges in the power division to discover a lasting solution to them.
Power Minister Adebayo Adelabu said this while addressing correspondents after a meeting with a few All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders at the Oyo State secretariat of the party in Oke-Ado, Ibadan.
The minister said President Bola Tinubu was determined to change the story in the power sector.
He said: “I want to utilize this opportunity to reassure Nigerians that the government of President Bola Tinubu is ready and determined to change the face of things in the power division, to change the game in the power sector. This is why we are addressing the root cause of the power sector problems.
“Yes, there are pockets of changes here and there, but that is not where we are going. We will still get to a situation whereby each Nigerian can enjoy adequate, steady, functional, and reliable power supply.”
Adebayo encouraged Nigerians to exercise patience with the Tinubu administration, saying the brief pains would soon become gains.
“But let me tell you that it is a journey and not a destination. We will start seeing this improvement as we are seeing now. This is because when you are repairing, you will still suffer some damages, you will still suffer some pains.
“When they were repairing the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway for 10 years, individuals were having traffic jams and getting held up in serious traffic until they wrapped up the road.
“So, while we are repairing, people must offer assistance to us to bear the little pains that will come with it. But at the end of the day, we will make gains. For you to make an omelet, you must break eggs. This is the period of breaking the eggs. Very soon, we will start eating our omelet.
“I am determined to illuminate the problems in the power segment and Nigerians will start singing our good songs very soon,” he added.
Commenting on the government’s effort at addressing the meter gaps in the country, the minister said President Tinubu had set up the Presidential Metering Initiative (PMI) and committed a seed capital of around N75 billion to guarantee that at least 2 million meters are installed in the next five years.
Adebayo said the PMI would harmonize all other mass metering initiatives beneath one umbrella and ensure that the project takes off instantly
