Alaafin: Owoade arrives in Nigeria to start traditional rites
The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade has arrived in Nigeria from Canada to commence traditional rites ahead of his coronation planned for April 5, 2025.
His entry was disclosed in a viral video posted on X on Wednesday.
Dressed in white blazers and matching white shoes with black pants and an inner T-shirt, adorned with a black fez cap, the Alaafin arrived to the waiting hands of well-wishers and a group of women singers.

Tribune Online reports that the media aide to the monarch, Bode Durojaiye, had in a statement on Monday, said the new monarch was prepared to commence his traditional rituals as the 46th Alaafin of Oyo.
“As part of the processes, Alaafin Owoade would visit several houses to offer sacrifices, make appeasements, and even sleep over at some of the houses to carry out some night rites.
“After performing the traditional rites at some conventional homes in Oyo town, the unused Alaafin will then enter Ipebi (seclusion) for the conclusion of the traditional rites within a secluded part of the Alaafin palace,” Durojaye said.
With his arrival in Nigeria, all is now set for the new monarch to proceed to Oyo Town where the traditional processes for his ascension to the throne of his forebears will commence.
