Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu, has described the gun attack on the former United States (US) President, Donald Trump, in Butler, Pennsylvania, as distasteful.
Trump was rushed off-stage by security personnel on Saturday, following a gun attack, during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Although the attacker, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, was immediately neutralized by a Secret Service sniper, in a post on his Truth Social network, Trump said a bullet pierced the “upper part” of his right ear.
“I knew immediately that something was wrong when I heard a whizzing sound, and shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin. Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening”, Trump wrote.
Reacting to the incident on his verified X handle on Sunday, President Tinubu said, “The attack on former President Donald Trump is distasteful and goes beyond the pale of democratic norms. Violence has no place in democracy.
I extend my sympathies to the former President and wish him relief. I also condole with the family of the deceased and those wounded and wish them a quick recovery.
“Nigeria stands in solidarity with the United States of America at this time
