The debuting Bayelsa Queens of Nigeria defeated Egypt’s Wadi Degla 3-0 in their final Group B match on Sunday to advance to the semi-finals of the CAF women’s Champions League this year.
The Bayelsa Queens are the first women’s club from Nigeria to advance past the group stage in the club championship.
Juliet Sunday and Mercy Ikimi’s goals guaranteed Bayelsa Queens’ entry into the semifinals.
Thanks to Sunday, the Nigerian league champions got on the board first in the eighth minute. After 48 minutes, Ikimi made it 2-0.
Ikimi completed her hat trick in the 53rd minute to give Bayelsa Queens a 3-0 lead.
On November 9th, they will compete in the semifinal against the hosts, AS FAR of Morocco.
Mamelodi Sundowns, the defending champions, will face Tanzanian club in the second semi-final.
